About Me

Hi! I'm Aubrey. I live with my husband and our 2 year old daughter in a small town near the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. Our daughter has had severe eczema since she was a couple months old and was diagnosed with allergies to peanut, egg and dairy at 6 months old. I am mostly plant based and have a dairy allergy. Going to vegan restaurants is always our safest bet as that eliminates cross contamination with egg or dairy, but there is usually always risk for peanut & tree nut contamination, especially when traveling outside of the US. I have yet to come across a peanut/ nut free restaurant but if anyone has, please let me know! Eating out has always been intimidating with her in our small town and while traveling to new cities. It is always my goal to find safe places to eat that she can enjoy too.

My hope for this blog is to help others who are traveling with food allergies by doing the work for you! I will keep adding new destinations in the US and abroad. I will have lists of allergy, vegan and family friendly restaurants, bakeries, cafes & grocery stores. The first days in a new place for us involves looking for snack and meal options and translating ingredients in packaged foods. Check my "shop" section for photos of safe package foods to look for in grocery store when you get to your destination. I know that everyone has different allergies and eating preferences so I will also include gluten free, soy free, sesame free, etc. when available. I also plan on having a list of easy recipes you can cook in your Air b&b or hotel kitchenette.

I spent months thinking about starting a blog about food allergies and traveling but didn't know how it would all connect.  It all came to me while visiting family in Porto, Portugal. After spending a few days visiting multiple markets and bio shops feeling confused and searching for snacks my toddler would actually eat, I decided there was no way that I was the only one who has ever had this problem. Wouldn't it be great if there were a list of restaurants and pictures of exactly what to look for in the grocery store?! Here we go!
